The Zurich-born Moritz Weber already performed regularly as a soloist and conductor during high school. He has won several prizes at competitions, including the Swiss Youth Music Competition.<\/p>\n

There was music at home with the Webers: His mother played the piano, his father the violin. Soon Moritz was passionate about playing the piano, practicing for hours on end, and at the age of twelve he decided: \u201cI’m going to be a pianist.\u201d<\/p>\n

He studied piano at the conservatories in Zurich and Munich with\u00a0Gitti Pirner<\/strong> und Christoph Lieske\/Thomas Gautschi<\/strong> as well as\u00a0Thomas B\u00f6ckheler.\u00a0<\/strong>He has deepened his training both in master classes with\u00a0Charles Rosen,\u00a0Georg Sava,\u00a0Julian Jacobson,\u00a0Bernhard Ringeissen,\u00a0Mikhail Voskressensky\u00a0<\/strong>and with chamber music and lied classes with\u00a0Raphael Wallfisch<\/strong> and\u00a0Brigitte Fassbaender.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Carmina Quartett\u00a0<\/strong>also left its mark on Moritz Weber, in said chamber music class he studied for two years.<\/p>\n

In 2000, Moritz Weber won the Migros Genossenschaftsbund (Switzerland) competition and an associated scholarship.<\/p>\n

Since then, concerts and concert tours as soloist, chamber musician, Lied accompanist and ocean-pianist have taken him to all continents around the globe. In the process, his multilingualism has served him well: He speaks fluent French, English, Italian and of course German. He has basic knowledge of Spanish, Dutch, Japanese and Polish. One of the reasons he studied Polish was to read Chopin’s letters in the original.<\/p>\n

Besides his concert activities and teaching<\/a>, Moritz Weber also completed a Master’s degree in Cultural Journalism at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in 2011.<\/p>\n

As a music journalist for swiss public radio’s arts channel SRF 2 Kultur, he regularly reviews opera events, concerts and international festivals, researches current topics, portrays musicians and produces features. His features and research about Chopin’s Men<\/a> received worldwide attention.<\/p>\n

He also wrote and writes articles in print media (in the cultural section of NZZ, among others) and leads conversation concerts as well as live talks and panel discussions.<\/p>\n
